A team at UC Davis has made a major leap in neurotechnology, enabling a man with ALS to speak again through a brain-computer interface that converts thoughts into speech in real time. Unlike prior systems that translated neural signals into text, this one synthesizes actual voice with tone, pacing, and even melody, creating a near-conversational experience. The device interprets neural signals via implants and advanced AI, making it possible for users to speak new words, ask questions, and express emotions vocally. Though still early-stage, this breakthrough offers real hope for those silenced by neurological conditions.

The startup specializes in "non-invasive" "mind-reading" tech—a kind of neural data collection that, its CEO hopes, will have all sorts of consumer applications.
I've been meditating with consumer EEG headbands for years and started writing code to analyze my own data. I found something I wasn't expecting.Earth's Schumann Resonance oscillates at ~7.8 Hz with harmonics at roughly 14, 20, 26, and 32 Hz. These overlap with canonical EEG frequency bands. That overlap was noted before but generally treated as coincidence. In 2010, Pletzer, Kerschbaum, and Klimesch at Universität Salzburg proposed that EEG bands follow golden ratio organization,
